I was diagnoed in November 2012, after months of waiting for doing various testing, my treatment included a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. Causing me with every step of the journey to reintroduce my new self not only to society, but to me, myself and I. Some of the side effects included; memory loss, hair loss, lack focus, I remembered a very scary moment, when there was a glitch during chemotherapy that was thankfully caught within seconds and thanks to the hospital staff I was able to continue with treatment after a short reevaluation, I slowly felt everything going dark from the outside in, like when you turn off your computer. I am very grateful and thank everyone that was there during my treatment, especially my children and my partner. For the Survivors that helped me and inspired me. The hugs, blessings and curiosity of the strangers. The friends that stayed during my journey and to the limitations, the challenging times, and all the opportunities that helped me find the strength and the courage when the light at the end of the tunnel seemed to fade away, and defit was knocking in the door, only then was I able to see and appreciate the lessons learned and I started to turned my scars into empowerment that helped me thrive towards today.
I am a volunteer and supporter of the American Cancer Society since 2008 and remain thru this date. I served as Chair for the Luminaria Ceremony, leading this ceremony of remembrance and hope, honoring survivors, caregivers, their families and those who have lost the battle to cancer for Relay For Life on three consecutive years in 2014, 2015 and 2016 in the city of Yucaipa. I was also a guest Speaker at CalPoly on an event organized by Relay for Life in 2015. In 2015 I was part of the Committee for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Riverside where I contributed to revamping their Balloon Ceremony to "Balloons of Hope Ceremony." |
